You Can Be a Car Salesman

Yes, that's right you can be a car salesman if you really want to sell cars for a living. People think you need to be a talker or a people person in order to become a car sales person. Usually they are thinking about the stereotypical image of a car salesman, but being a car salesman does not require or even recommend that the good automobile sales person should be an outgoing, life of the party type of person.

If you want to be a car salesman and more importantly a good one, you need to listen much more than you talk. Listening carefully to a potential car buyer will serve you much better than talking all the time. The auto sales person that spends all of their time talking rather than listening to their customer's needs and want will often find themselves without a buyer.

How You Can Be a Car Salesman

You can be a car salesman and achieve great success if you are willing to learn the business, the product, the car sales system and listen carefully to your customer. Many people have entered the car business in any number of different ways, but here are some of the most common steps to follow to be a car salesman.

Step #1: Get hired by a car dealership to sell automobiles. If you are going to be a car salesman the first step is to find an auto dealer that is looking for applicants to sell cars. Check your local newspaper, and online for dealers that are accepting applications for sales people and follow the instructions by either calling or going to the dealership and filling out an application. Most ads for car sales people will say "no experience need" which is your queue.

Step #2: Interview. Some car dealers may interview you after you fill out an application to become a car salesperson and some may process your application and call you at a later date for an interview. When you come into the car dealer for an interview you should remember that the sales manager or managers that interview you are looking for a person that wants to be a car salesman, is confident, ambitious and willing to take "Fresh Ups". They want someone that has the drive and determination to sell lots of cars because the sales manager is paid based on sales just like the car salesman they hire.

Step#3: Get Hired: They may hire you on the spot or they may be doing interviews with several people that want to be a car salesman that day and they will be selecting several candidates to hire. In which case they will call you later, which is the most common scenario.

Step#4 Start Sales Training: You will be instructed when and where to report for your car salesman training and go through a 1 to 5 day class for car sales people.

Step#5: It's Time to Be a Car Salesman: Hit the floor and start using the knowledge you acquired in you sales training class. You will be supervised and assisted by the sales managers or other members of the sales staff.

I know this is very basic when it comes to being a car salesman, but it is not rocket science. Once you start selling cars you will learn the car sales techniques, car sales closes and receive car sales tips to help you sell more and more cars. You said you wanted to be a car salesman and here you are selling cars for a living. To become a successful car salesman the rest is up to you. Your determination and drive is what will make the difference between being a car salesman and being a good car salesman.

Karl here was clearly trying to fill up space here by giving very clever advice on how to sell cars by brilliantly giving tips such as 'go get a job selling cars and then let them train you.' Hmmm..Good work Karl. What other juicy bits of wisdom can you impart. Perhaps, such as - get rich by doing or selling something that makes you a lot of money, or the best way to survive is to avoid death.
